I have been fighting for autonomy all along - Yong

SANDAKAN, Oct 30, 2010: Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee said he has been fighting for Sabah autonomy for a long time.

In fact, the Sabah Progressive Party President revealed that several of his successes in protecting the right and autonomy of the state were achieved when he was in the Cabinet between 1994 and 1998.

Yong was the Local Government and Housing Minister between 1994 and 1996 and the Chief Minister between May 1996 and 1998.

"I had rejected the extension of the Local Government Act to Sabah in 1995 and maintenained the Local Government Ordinance under Sabah. I also rejected the extension of the Indah Water Consortium to take over the sewerage services in Sabah in 1996 and two years later, I rejected the extent ions if the Employment Act, insisting on the Sabah Labour Ordinance, with upgrading of the employment laws.

"In 1997, I rejected the federal approval of gaming licence, regained state power to export round logs that was stopped by the Malaysian Timber Industry Board in the Parti Bersatu Sabah era and regained state power to jointly handle the foreign worker issues," Yong said, naming a few... more
