Dear Editor,
THE authority must investigate and pursue news of possible money laundering by a Sabah businessman who lost tens of millions Ringgit in a Singapore casino recently. The news was reported in The Overseas Chinese Daily News, which was published on 13 October. The probe would definitely tell everyone whether this is a money laundering for the coming Batu Sapi by-election. Regards.

  9. Higher roller loses $76.5 million in Singapore casino

Posted in Betting Industry News on October 12, 2010 @ 5:08 pm by Richard Hutchinson

SINGAPORE - A high rolling baccarat player lost $76.5 million ($100 million Singapore dollars) in two Singapore casinos, according to local media reports. The player, a local businessman who is ranked as the 40th richest men in the country, will not have been unduly harmed by his losses, according to casino sources.

Apparently another high rolling player, from Sabah in Malaysia, lost $38.3 million ($50 million Singapore dollars) in the two Singapore casinos recently. The Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands both have popular high roller rooms where the amounts gambled on baccarat reaches stratospheric levels.

The Singaporean government will no doubt be somewhat concerned by the huge reported losses as they had hoped the vast majority of casino profits would not come from local gamblers.

The news follows reports about seafood processing mogul Henry Quek’s three day gambling frenzy in which he lost $19.9 million ($26 million Singapore dollars). Quek claimed the casino had granted him credit when he was clearly not thinking straight and threatened legal action. The casino is understood to have let him off $6.9 million ($9 million Singapore dollars) of his debt and he has now settled what is owning in full.

Although Singapore has allowed two new casinos to open it has not stopped illegal casinos operating throughout the republic. Ten men were arrested for illegal gambling in a condominium on Dunman Road on Monday night when police seized gambling chips, poker chips and cash.
