Kota Kinabalu,15 October, 2010: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Batu Sapi division chief said the opposition should let the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) take on the Barisan Nasional in the upcoming Batu Sapi by-election.
"I encourage SAPP to field their candidate in Batu Sapi and I am willing to help the SAPP candidate ... after reading the SAPP constitution and manifesto, I believe the bumiputera in Sabah actually have a much better future in SAPP," said Datuk Nahalan Damsal, a former Assemblyman for the area.
The Batu Sapi parliamentary seat was left vacant following the tragic death of its elected representative, Datuk Edmund Chong Ket Wah, in a road accident last Saturday.
Nahalan spoke at a press conference at Kinabalu Club in Lido, Thursday. SAPP Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah, was among those present.
The former Batu Sapi Assemblyman has been in politics for more than 35 years.
He was a State Minister in the PBS Government and ex-Assistant Minister under Barisan Nasional Government era.
He expects a three-cornered fight in the by-election, the other opposition party being Pakatan Rakyat. However, he said, except for SAPP, the rest were not local-based.
Nahalan said when SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee was Chief Minister, he helped the bumiputeras a lot especially in the issuance of Native Titles."
In Batu Sapi, itself, he said Yong approved the reclamation of 20 acres for the construction of housing for some 300 bumiputera families.
But, regretfully, subsequent to the approval and gazettement of the 20 acres, the BN Government failed to build the promised homes for the families who he later resettled at another location.
"The land is still there until now but only covered by grass, although everything had been prepared for the construction of homes," he said.
Nahalan also asked the people of Sabah to reflect on why the State become among the poorest in the country only after the BN took over the State Government, but never during the Usno, Berjaya and PBS eras.
"We hear about so much money made including recently by our oil palm industry, oil resources, tourism and so on, but Sabah is remained as the poorest state," he said.

In this case, Nahalan could be sacked from PKR and I hope it is not
ReplyDeleteAccording to Ansari, Nahalan was the ex-PKR Division Chief for Batu Sapi. So who is the present chief?
ReplyDeletePKR batu sapi chief now is hassanar
ReplyDeleteThose Sabahan supporting PKR are those short-sighted;their struggles are artificals and hypocrites. They only dreamings to be YBs and selling their mothers for positions and projects.Because of them our dignities as SABAHANS gone;making our generations with no future other than beggers in their own STATE.
ReplyDeleteI thought SAPP & PKR has mutual understanding that both of them will not going to "attack" each other & focus their attention on BN/PBS...
ReplyDelete"I believe the bumiputera in Sabah actually have a much better future in SAPP.".. and i believe the bumiputera in Sabah have no better future in PKR.. then PKR should withdraw from the contest..
ReplyDeleteHmm, good, now if SAPP win, PKR jangan masuk campur ok? u said SAPP is a local-base party, so be it.
ReplyDeletePKR dan SAPP masing-masing pun mahu bertanding. jadi, biarlah rakyat yang akan menentukan parti pilihan mereka sama ada BN,PKR, atau SAPP.
ReplyDeleteIn that case, PKR should give way to SAPP. Let it be between SAPP and BN.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, i think it would be interesting to have a three-way competition to measure which party is favored by the rakyat.
ReplyDeleteSAPP is Sabah Parti, PKR is not. SAPP should contest. however, the people will decide who will win.
ReplyDeletePKR favours with SAPP??may be this have something PKR want from SAPP that why PKR favours with this party. This just one of the strategy from PKR to attract people than PKR is the good party and support other party. Tunjuk baik kata kan..
ReplyDeleteWhat the special with SAPP untill PKR want this party out from Batu Sapi election. that PKR scared with the PKR power and influence ini this Place. Maybe yeah..So, PKR is not the Batu Sapi people choice for they future.
ReplyDeleteI thought Nahalan Damsal was the one who is eager to let SAPP winning the seat.
ReplyDeleteahaks....umpan untuk SAPP...
ReplyDeletesorong papan tarik papan...:) permainan politik sukar difahami...
ReplyDeleteWhatever it may turn out, I think the best way to deal with it, is to accept the way it has to be.
ReplyDeleteHe says so. But sorry, it won't happened.
ReplyDeleteI prefer if the match between SAPP and BN, PKR buat kacau saja!!
ReplyDeleteTerpulangla mana satu pilihan hatinya. Keputusan masih terlalu awal untuk diputuskan.
ReplyDeleteWell, let us wait and see.
